Volendam
Volendam is situated on the Markermeer and is a picture of a village. The fishing village is known for its traditional costumes, the beautiful houses with their green facades and of course the fish! On to Marken
From Volendam you take the Marken Express over the Markermeer to Marken. Once on the characteristic peninsula you will gain access to the Marken watchtower. This house is still as furnished as it was around 1940. Throughout Marken are still the typical wooden houses, which people built when it was still a real island. Walk especially to the eastern point of the island, where the old lighthouse shines the 'Horse of Marken'
